ROMAN BRONZE APPLIQUE WITH SILENUS HEAD
Ca. AD 100 - 300 A Roman applique in the form of a Silenus head with a long beard, grapes and leaves on the forehead. Silenus is depicted as an old satyr who was a companion of Dionysus in Graeco-Roman mythology. His image was commonly associated with raucous drinking and revelry, appliques such as this were often used decoratively on various types of vessels.
