MASSIVE INDUS VALLEY JAR WITH ZEBU BULL

Ca. 3000 - 2000 BC An Indus Valley wheel-thrown jar decorated with a geometric motif and a procession of zebu bulls. It has a squat foot, a gobular body, and a flared rim. The orange-slipped exterior features a procession of horned Zebu bulls surrounded by stylised representations of plants and trees. Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s in Japan; previously in 1970s Japanese collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
