ROMAN GOLD RING WITH MERCURY INTAGLIO
Ca. AD 300
A gold finger ring of Hening type X. Its D-shaped hoop expands gradually to form a recessed setting for a carnelian intaglio engraved with the standing figure of Mercury (Greek Hermes). He is portrayed in a contrapposto stance, with his head turned to his left as he holds what appears to be caduceus - his snake-entwined staff.
