Description

Ca. 13th-15th century AD.
An iron dagger with sleek single-edged blade exudes elegance and simplicity, while the straight cross guard and curved tang add to the overall aesthetic appeal. The two rivet holes on the hilt of the dagger serve a functional purpose, as they allow the hilt to be securely fastened to the tang of the blade. This is a common feature on medieval knives and daggers, as it ensures that the blade will not come loose during use, providing added safety and reliability. During the medieval period, knives and daggers were essential tools for both everyday life and warfare. They were used for hunting, cutting food, and personal defense, as well as for military combat. These weapons were often intricately decorated with ornate designs and symbols, reflecting the status and wealth of their owners. The use of iron as a material for these weapons was also common, as it was readily available and strong enough to withstand the rigors of daily use.
Size: L:263mm / W:68mm ; 205g
Provenance: Property of a European collector; ex. German collection formed between 1990-2010.
