Ca. 100-200 AD.
A lovely pair of gold earrings comprised of a delicate hoop, secured with a hook and eye closure, and adorned with a boss shield. The shield features a twisted border and a central granule, adding a refined touch to the earrings' overall design. To further elevate their beauty, each earring is suspended with a gold wire link adorned with ornate scrolls, which are positioned on each side. The green stone bead that graces each earring is threaded through the gold wire link and secured at the bottom with a knot, creating a stunning finish that captures the eye. This green stone, adds a captivating touch of color to the overall design. In ancient Rome, gold jewelry was highly prized and was a symbol of wealth and social status. The crafting of such pieces required great skill and was often a collaborative effort between goldsmiths, lapidaries, and other skilled artisans. The resulting pieces were cherished not only for their aesthetic value but also for their inherent symbolism and cultural significance. Cf.
