ORDOS CIVILISATION BRONZE MOUNT IN THE SHAPE OF AN IBEX
Ca. 6th century BC
A cast bronze openwork plaque portrays a stag with its legs elegantly folded underneath its body. The head of the animal is prominently raised, adorned with gracefully curved horns that add to its majestic appearance. The stag was a creature of great importance, symbolizing various attributes such as strength, agility, and fertility. It held associations with deities, nature, and the spiritual realm. The Ordos civilization, also known as the Ordos culture, flourished in the region of present-day Inner Mongolia, China, during the first millennium BC. It was characterized by a nomadic lifestyle and a unique artistic tradition that incorporated animal motifs and intricate bronze craftsmanship. The society was primarily engaged in animal husbandry, and their deep connection with nature and wildlife is reflected in their artistic representations.
