SELJUK PAIR OF GOLD BRACELETS

Ca. 1100-1200 AD
A pair of gold bracelets. Each showcases a carinated profile, formed in the round, with a hinged closure to the rear for easy wearing and removal. The focal point of each bracelet is a raised bezel setting adorned with four lateral prongs, securely holding a mesmerizing pink cabochon. The bezel boxes surrounding the gemstones are densely covered with intricate filigree work, displaying the remarkable skill and attention to detail of Seljuk artisans. Emerging in the 11th century, the Seljuks, a prominent Turkic dynasty, ascended to dominance and forged an extensive empire spanning across the realms of Central Asia and the Middle East. Renowned for their exceptional military prowess and astute administrative skills, the Seljuks exerted a profound influence in shaping the political and cultural tapestry of the region. Seljuk jewelry reflects the grandeur and refinement of the era. Gold, with its intrinsic value and lustrous appearance, was the preferred material for creating luxurious jewelry pieces. The use of gold in Seljuk jewelry not only showcased the wealth and prosperity of the wearer but also symbolized their elevated status within society.
