ROMAN RED WARE DOUBLE SPOUTED OIL LAMP WITH CHI-RHO
Ca. 300-400 AD
A mold-made pottery lamp with rich, deep red color, especially around the nozzle, where it has darkened from use. It has a sunken discus, two pour holes on either side of the central design, an unpierced lug handle, and double spouts. The design on the discus of this lamp is a Chi Rho, one of the earliest forms of Christogram. It is surrounded by relief arrows and circles. The outer circle has many small designs of this same style.
