BYZANTINE BRONZE SPOON
Ca. 600-800 AD.
A bronze spoon with a flat-section shaft and a shallow oval-shaped bowl. These spoons were used in the Byzantine Empire mainly for eating and serving food, but also for various other purposes, such as medical and religious ceremonies. The metalwork of the Byzantine Empire showcased marvelous craftsmanship, and the bronzes spoons created during this period are a fine example of this.
