NEOCLASSICAL MARBLE FEMALE BUST
Ca. 1800 AD. A neoclassical marble bust of a woman in Roman style. It is rendered with a tousled garment wrapped around her arms and covering her chest, while her left shoulder, upper chest, and back are exposed. Her head is depicted with youthful, idealising features, her oval face gently sloping to the pronounced chin, her eyes almond-shaped, the delicately-modelled brows arching gracefully and merging with the bridge of her nose, the nostrils articulated, with small bow-shaped lips, her forehead peaked at the centre; luscious, wavy hair centre-parted, rolled back over the top of her ears, bound in a fillet and is surmounted by a stephane, a decorative wreath worn by Greek and Roman aristocratic women. The features of her body are crafted with life-like accuracy. Size: L:515mm / W:400mm ; 28.3kg Provenance: Ex French Collection, Paris Gallery, previously French Art market.
