ELAMITE GOLD RING WITH AGATE BEAD
Ca. 800-700 BC. A gold finger ring composed of a banded agate bead set in a round-section hoop with each arm of the hoop embellished with gold wire coils. Elam was an ancient state with a federal structure, founded around 2400 BC in the territory of today's southwest Iran (Khuzestan province on the border with Iraq) and the mountain province of Lurestan. The most important centre of Elam was Suza (discovered in 1927), lying on the eastern bank of the Kercha River.
