ROMAN TERRA SIGILLATA BOWL WITH ANIMALS
Ca. 100 AD. A rich red terra sigillata bowl of a hemispherical body with a broad, flat rim with a decorative relief pattern of five zoomorphic beasts running in profile. The bowl sits upon a low ring foot that concaves. 'Terra sigillata' is a type of fine ware Roman pottery identifiable by its red glossy surface slip, which was made in specific areas of the Roman Empire, such as North Africa, Gaul, and Central Italy.
