Kent argued that this coin was issued by Poemenius, who revolted against Magentius in favour of Constantius, at Trier only; subsequently scholars have divided on the issue whether it was issued by Poemenius in 352, or by Constantius in 353 following his occupation of the city. In either case, this is a coin of great historical significance. It is interesting that Constantius, an Arian, adopted the Catholic reverse of Magnentius, at least for a short time; or that Poemenius regarded it as politic to represent Constantius in those terms.
