Description

Germany. Magdeburg. Time of Bishop Adelgod 1107-1119. AR Denar (19mm, 0.83g). Magdeburg (?) mint. Scepter, on both side towers, above small cross pattee / Cross with angles in each angle. Dbg. 1790; Mehl 100. Fine. Flat spots, flan split, pin hole perforation. Rare.

This coin is a rare and interesting type that Dannenberg placed as mint unknown. Mehl believed it to be minted in Magdeburg, however the reverse of Dbg. 610 and obverse of Dbg. 611 bare close resemblance to this this piece which were, according to Dannenberg, minted in nearby Merseburg. Therefore, this coin could likely also be from Merseburg or an imitation.
