Description

Probus. A.D. 276-282. AE antoninianus (24.0 mm, 4.56 g, 6 h). Lugdunum mint, struck A.D. 277. IMP C M AVR PROBVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Probus right / MARS VICTOR, Mars advancing right, holding trophy over shoulder and transverse spear; II in exergue. RIC 37; cf. Bastien 166-179. gVF, some silvering remains, spots of red and green. Rare bust type.

Of 15 specimens cited of RIC 37 at ACSearch, only two are this bust type, and only one has II on the reverse. This bust type is not recorded at PROBVS.NET.
