★ A beautifully toned tetradrachm from Messana ★

SICILY. Messana. 450-446 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.32 g, 11 h). Charioteer, holding reins in his right hand and kentron in his left, driving biga of mules to right; above, Nike flying right to crown the mules; in exergue, olive leaf. Rev. MESS-ИOIИA Hare springing right; below, olive spray. Caltabiano 356.4 ( this coin, D159/R148). Dewing 643 ( same dies ). SNG Fitzwilliam 1069 ( same dies ). A beautifully toned and very well centered example. Die break on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
