Byzantine lead seal of John metretes
(ca 11th cent.)
Obverse: Inscription in 3 lines, +ΚΕRΟ/ΗΘΕΙΤΩ/CΩΔΟΥΛ = Κύριε, βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ (Lord, help your servant), dotted border.
Reverse: Inscription in 3 lines between decorative patterns, +ΙΩΑΝ/ΝΗΜΕ/ΤΡΗΤ, = Ἰωάννῃ μετρητῇ (John metretes), dotted border.
Metretes is a very interesting and unusual office!
Condition: Very Fine
