A beautiful iconographic and nicely preserved overstruck seal! (ca 11th cent.)
Diam.: 28mm Weight: 10.40 gr. Condition: About VF, as in photos, with nice greenish patina.
Obverse: Bust of Mother of God, facial, nimbate, wearing chiton and maphorion, sigla ΜΡ-ΘΥ (Mother of God), all within dotted border.
Reverse: Bust of saint Nicholaos, bishop of Myrrha, facial, nimbate, wearing prelate's garments, blessing by his right hand and holding the book of Gospels in his left, columnar inscription, O (ΑΓΙΟC) ΝΙ-ΚΟΛ(ΑΟC) = Ὁ ἅγιος Νικόλαος (Saint Nicholaos), all within dotted border.
It's to note that the present seal is struck over a previous seal with circular inscriptions preserved in a good extent.
