Rev: seated Britannia with incuse BRITANNIA legend and date; the coin split, hollowed out and formed into a patch box with screw thread join. See S. 3776 for coin. 41.31 grams. . Georgian gentlemen dandies often wore black 'beauty' spots or 'patches' on their faces, together with other cosmetics, in the 18th century; small boxes such as this example would hold spare patches in case of need while out socialising.
