Description
Greek Gold Astarte Earrings
5th century BC. A matched pair of gold figural earrings, penannular with short shank and high-relief facing figure of Astarte with disc above the head. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Jewellery, Greek, Etruscan and Roman, in the Department of Antiquities, British Museum, London, 1911, item 1877 for type. 2.01 grams total, 19mm (3/4"). Property of a North London gentleman; formerly in the collection of Mr S.M., London, formed 1948-2000. [2]
