Description
1st-3rd century A.D.. Domed phalera with field of radiating bosses in varying sizes, central tondo with profile female bust; four attachment points to the reverse. Cf. similar less ornate example in the British Museum under accession no.1854,0717.23. 120 grams, 77 mm (3 in.).
Acquired in the mid 1980s-1990s. Private collection, Switzerland, thence by descent. Private collection, since the late 1990s. (For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price.)
