Luristan Dirk Blade 1000 B.C. A large tanged blade with broad midrib tapering towards the tip, rounded shoulders and short tang for the insertion of the organic hilt. Cf. Khorasani, M.M., Arms and Armour from Iran. The Bronze Age to the End of the Qajar Period, Tübingen, 2006, item 5. 264 grams, 39 cm (15 1/4 in.). Acquired 1980-2015. Ex Abelita family collection. According to Moorey, the daggers in Luristan until the latter half of the 2nd millennium B.C. comprised simple tanged copper or bronze blades that were rivetted to a handle usually made of organic and perishable material. Mostly specimens were cast in one solid piece, like this one.
