Gold and Silver Inlaid Mirror with Water Birds 19th century A.D. or earlier. A bronze mirror with lobed circumference, pierced dome at centre, raised border decorated with sinuous foliage inlaid with gold and silver, a pentagonal arrangement of floral and foliate motifs at the centre, water birds, phoenixes and butterflies in flight around, flowers and plants of various kinds in the field, also inlaid with silver and gold. 1.7 kg, 26.7 cm (10 1/2 in.). Property of a London doctor; previously in the collection of her husband by inheritance; formerly acquired during travels in the Far East during the 1920s.
