Greek Patrix Die Circa 5th-3rd century B.C. A bronze patrix die or jeweller's former, mummiform in plan with deep, concave sidewall and roughly ellipsoidal base, the upper face engraved with a standing female figure wearing a full-length robe with textured pleats and a head covering, apparently cupping her right breast with her right hand, stylised facial features; likely for repoussé work. 237 grams, 71 mm (2 3/4 in.). Acquired 1970-1999. Property of a late Mayfair, London gentleman, by descent.
