Description

Cretan Terracotta Hydria-Wearer 5th-4th century B.C. A terracotta ?????-???? (Hydria - water pot - wearer), formed as a standing female figure dressed in a chiton, one hand held by her side, the other steadying the hydria on her head; hollow-formed; mounted on a custom-made display stand. Cf. ???????????, ?., ?onanno-???????????, M., ???????, ?., Pisani, M., '???????, ????????, ??????? ?????? ??? ??????. ?????? ????????? ?? ???????? ???? ???? O???????' One of the most representative terracotta figurines offered as gifts in the Greek sanctuaries are the ones of Hydriaphorai (Hydria-wearers). In one sanctuary in Orchomenos, 32 different types are represented, covering the period from the 5th to 4th century B.C. [No Reserve]
