Description

GERMANY: SAXONY. Johann Georg I, 1611-56. Ducat, 1616, Dresden, Original strike. 3.45 g. Kahnt 229; Fb-2642; Schl-995.
In Germany thic coin is called a Sophiendukat and was first minted for Christmas of 1616 dedicated for the electress Sopie. The coin became such a very popular godfather gift that the Dresden Mint minted this coin untill 1872. Restrikes can be recognized with a slightly shorter legend AN SEIN KIND ERLEBT instead of AN SEIN KINDERN ERLEBT.
Scarce as an original, Light weakness and slight creasing, nearly extremely fine.
