NETHERLANDS. Louis I Napoleon, 1806-10. 50 Stuivers 1808, Utrecht. 26.49 g. Mintage 2,465,807. KM# 28. The Kingdom of Holland was established in 1806 and Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, figured his younger brother Louis would fulfil his wishes without dissent. However, Louis soon became popular in Holland, taking independent decisions without Napoleon's consent. This led to Napoleon's re-annexation of Holland in 1810 and Louis fled to Austria, remaining there for the rest of his life. His son, Louis Napoleon established the Second French Empire in 1852, as Napoleon III. The coin offered here shows lively toning and marks are virtually non-existent. With an important place in history, this choice specimen deserves strong interest.
