FRANCE: Louis XVI, 1774-1792, AE medal, 1791, Maz-244, 35mm, Commemorates the Acceptance of Louis XVI of the New French Constitution on 14 September 1791 and designed by Dupré, JE JURE D'ETRE FIDELE A LA NATION ET LA LOI (I swear to be faithful to the nation and the law) around edge, Louis XVI standing to the right of a pedestal, which bears the revolutionary symbols of a fasces enclosing a spear surmounted by a Phrygian cap of liberty. His right hand rests on a tablet bearing the word "CONSTITUTION", which is supported by Minerva, representing Liberty, and between the two figures is another female holding a pair of scales representing Equality // MESSAGE DU ROI A L'ASS. NAT: CONSTte PRESIDt. Jes. Gme. THOURET around outer margin, LE VOEU/ DU PEUPLE N'EST/ PLUS DOUTEUX/ POUR MOI:/ J'ACCEPTE LA/ CONSTITUTION./ 13 SEPTEMBRE/ L'AN III DE LA/ LIBERTÉ at center, with old collector's tag, Unc. Frères Monneron (the Monneron Brothers) token or medal struck at Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint in Birmingham, England.
