ROMAN EMPIRE: LOT of 32 silver denarii of the early Severan dynasty, including Septimius Severus (13), Caracalla (as augustus, 14) and Geta (as caesar, 5), featuring a variety of portraits and reverse types, housed in protective plastic capsules; average grade VF to VF-EF, retail value $1450; lot of 32 pieces. Septimius Severus reportedly gave his sons three pieces of advice: get along, pay the army well, and ignore everyone else. The first was clearly not heeded, for within a year of their father's death, Caracalla would arrange a peace meeting in their mother's chamber, only to have his soldiers burst in and slay Geta in her arms.
