AUSTRALIA: Victoria, 1837-1901, medal (64.77g), 1853, 58mm unsigned white metal medal for the Cessation of Transportation of Prisoners to Van Diemen's Land, bust left with VICTORIA QUEEN - MDCCCLIII around // arms with kangaroo and emu with CESSATION OF TRANSPORTATION 1853 around and TASMANIA FOUNDED / 1803 in exergue, little wear, but contact marks on obverse including dig on Victoria's cheek, mintage of only 9,000 pieces, plain edge, EF, S. The white metal version was given out to the school children of Tasmania. The arms used on the reverse was the coat of arms selected for Australia after federation.
