CHILE: Republic, AV plaque (85.57g), 1910, MeF 487, 60x43mm gold plaque for the Centennial of Chilean Independence by René Lalique, Chile personified holding branch and standing facing surrounded by wheat stalks with "1810 - 18 SETIEMBRE - 1910" along upper margin with flowers in lower corners with REPUBLICA DE CHILE / PRIMER / CENTENARIO on platform/exergue // flag waving from diagonal flagpole with sunburst behind and mountainous landscape and foliage below and Chilean arms at lower center, plain edge, OR and small incuse head at lower left obverse margin, UNC, RR. René Lalique was a famous French artist best known for such genres as jewelry, chandeliers, vases, perfume bottles, and automoblie hood ornaments. Sadly, he only made a small number of medallic pieces, clearly a shame when looking at this Lalique plaque.
