Description

ARAB-EPHTHALITE: "Gorigo Shah", ca. 687-688, AR drachm (3.77g), Anbir (near Juzjan), AH69, A-90, G-280, standard Sasanian design, with the ruler's name zolooo gozogano "the Zolo of Juzjan" before the bust, tamgha in ObQ1, bism Allah in ObQ2, and Pahlavi apzwt GDH in ObQ3 // Pahlavi ombiro in RvQ5 (the city name), GDH in RvQ6, apzwt in RvQ7, and Pahlavi gorigo rooeo in RvQ8 (opposite reverse margin arrangement compared to the AH68 issue), the mint name in Arabic left of the left attendant, the date in Pahlavi right of the right attendant (NWAShST); bold strike, with only some minor spots of weakness, choice EF, RR. Struck by one of the pro-Arab Hunnic groups, during the time of the Umayyad caliph 'Abd al-Malik b. Marwan (AH65-86). Formerly classified as Arab-Hephthalite.
