ROMAN IMPERATORIAL PERIOD: Sextus Pompey, in Sicily, 43-36 BC, AR denarius (3.89g), Sicily (42-40 BC), S-1392, Cr-511/3, MAC PIVS IMP ITER, bare head of Sextus' father Pompey the Great between jug & lituus // PRÆF CLAS ET ORÆ MARIT EX S C (MAR as monogram), Neptune standing to left with right foot on prow, holding aplustre, between the Catanean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus, each of whom bears a parent on his shoulders, off center strike, VF, R. Sextus was executed in 35 BC by order of Mark Antony.
