ABBASID: LOT of 50 silver dirhams, mostly from the period AH132-218, with a wide variety of rulers, date and mints, an interesting study lot, average quality examples, retail value $1200, lot of 50 coins. The Abbasid Caliphate was founded by a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad's uncle, Abbas ibn Abdul-Muttalib (566-653), from whom the dynasty takes its name. They ruled as caliphs for most of the caliphate from their capital in Baghdad (Madinat al-Salam) in modern-day Iraq, after having overthrown the Umayyad Caliphate in the Abbasid Revolution of 750-751.
