MALAY STATES: LOT of 45 coins, a very interesting group containing many unpublished pieces, including pre-Islamic: 6 Jambi lion AE units (cf. Zeno-310220), average F-VF; Bantam: one picis banten AH11xx, cf. Millies 115, Fine with corrosion; Batubara: 6 tin-lead coins (two 1-pitis and one 1/2-pitis of Zain al-'Abidin, all dated AH1158 on reverse with masruf batu bahar cf. Zeno-275615; a very rare 1/2-pitis citing him as malik batu bahar cf. Zeno-276867; and two uncertain examples); various grades, some quite bold; Jambi: 15 various pitis of various types, some round and others octagonal, some in Javanese and others in Jawi, all with inscriptions and decent surfaces, a few AU to Unc with light luster; Siak: 4 "Sultan Siyak" pitis with hexagonal hole cf. Zeno-178900; all different calligraphic varieties, VF to VF-EF; Sulawesi: 6 tin-lead coins of uncertain origins, none on Zeno, all quite worn; plus 5 local imitations of British Java AE stuivers (KM-243; corrosion), and Netherlands East Indies 1802 AR 1/4 gulden (KM-81; VF-EF), and a Singapore merchant keping (VF); retail value $700, lot of 45 pieces.
