MING: Tian Qi, 1621-1627, AE cash (3.14g), H-, so-called "ghost" variety (gui tian qi), unusual calligraphy, natural casting defects, graded 80(07) by GBCA Grading Company, VF, ex Dr. Dirk Löer Collection. The "ghost" moniker stems from the belief that this type was privately cast as "hell money", i.e., offering for the dead. But judging from the consistent casting style, it is perhaps more likely that it was an official issue from an unknown provincial mint.
