FRANCE: Directory, AE medal (43.29g), L 'AN 5 (1796-7), Coniglio-17, d 'Essling-701, Hennin-783, 43mm bronze medal for the Surrender of Mantua by Lavy, personification of Mantua with turreted crown is handing the key of the town to Mars standing in front and wearing a cuirass and a crest; in the background an aqueduct linking to a fortress, with REDDITION DE / MANTOUE in exergue // 'A L ' ARMEE D 'ITALIE / VICTORIEUSE / (thunderbolt) / LOI / DU 24 PLUVIOSE / AN 5me. R with laurel wreath above all, with loop, ring, and red, white, and blue ribbon, brown, light residue and a few hairlines at right obverse, plain edge, Unc. While researching this medal, we found several that have been sold without mount and ribbon, but none in this style to be worn.
