Description

CHINA: AE charm (37.35g), CCH-1941, 55mm, Ursa Major or "Big Dipper" constellation above the circular hole, below the constellation is what is described as an auspicious cloud (xiangyun), below the circular hole is xuanwu (one of the Four Divine Creatures) which is a tortoise entwined by a snake that eventually evolved into the Daoist warrior god Zhenwu; to the left of xuanwu is a crane which represents longevity // twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac, zi chou yin mao chen si wu wei shen you xu hai around, VF. Likely cast in the Song dynasty.
