Description

SASANIAN KINGDOM: Varhran II, 276-292, AR drachm (3.86g), G-57 (type V/1), SNS-A56/A57, Saeedi-160 (=SNS-A56), Sunrise-781, king 's bust, wearing winged crown with korymbos, the queen wearing simple crown, without their son // fire altar with two attendants facing away, with triplet of pellets right of the fire, extremely rare type for Varhran II, discolored surfaces, VF, RRR. No examples of this type are listed on CoinArchives. The type Göbl-57 is one of the rarest types of Varhran II, missing in nearly all recorded collections, including the three museum collections that form the basis of the SNS publication.
