MEXICO. Mining Convention Silver Medal, 1955. PCGS SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield.
Grove-661a. Commemorating the Mining Convention for the Association of Engineers and Architects of Mexico. Obverse: Bust of miner left, wearing helmet and headlamp, and holding pickax over shoulder; Reverse: Seven line inscription with inscription above. A rather boldly struck example, exhibiting a high degree of lustrous brilliance, though some scattered hairlines on its prooflike surfaces are noted. RARE and interesting, and drawing upon the popular obverse type of the 1951 Onza Pattern "Miner & Elephant" type, one of which we sold in our 2019 ANA auction for a staggering total of $10,200 [!].
