Description

"1784" (post-1880) Benjamin Franklin Winged Genius Medal. Paris Mint Restrike. Betts-619, Greenslet GM-35, Adams-Bentley 14. Bronze. Specimen-64 BN (PCGS).
46 mm. Edge marked (cornucopia) BRONZE at 5 o'clock. Rich olive-brown patina lightens to more of a golden-brown on the obverse. Sharply struck with crisply rendered motifs, a smooth appearance to matte-finish surfaces provides additional appeal. Dozens (hundreds?) of times rarer than Betts-620, John Adams recorded only two original plain edge specimens of Betts-619 in bronze. Given the extreme rarity of originals, attractive Paris Mint restrikes such as this are the only realistic options for collectors seeking to represent this Betts number.
