"RF Fezzan" overprint. A deceptively rare overprint from World War II that is more often than not a counterfeit. Genuine examples are very rarely seen and typically only encountered when old time collections are sold, as is the case with the Al Kugel collection. According to World War II Remembered, it is believed that genuine examples are only found with the host note showing a 10.3.1938 date, as seen here. The notes were issued by the Free French Forces that were attacking Fezzan, a province of Libya that at the time was part of Italian Tripolitania. A rare opportunity for the specialist to acquire a genuine example of this rare provisional issue.
