FIJI. Government of Fiji. 10 Dollars, 1.1.1872. P-5d. PMG Very Fine 20 Net. Severed & Reattached, Restoration.
Smith signature. Negotiable debenture that circulated as currency and is among the earliest paper money from the South Pacific. Fiji at the time was poor and the government lacked funds, and the treasury issued a variety of currency along with promissory notes and issues from local traders. Most, such as the present example, have been cancelled, and not surprisingly, survivors are scarce. PMG Comments "Severed & Reattached, Restoration."
