BAHAMAS. Lot of (2). Central Bank of the Bahamas. 20 Dollars, ND (ca 1974). P-Unlisted. Front & Back Printer's Model. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
A pair of separate front and back printer's models for an unissued design from the Bahamas. The first series of bank notes from the Central Bank of the Bahamas was issued in 1974 and would eventually utilize the same design as the earlier 1965 and 1968 series. It appears, however, that this design was considered (PMG thinks it would have been produced around 1974), although we believe that it is more likely to have been produced in the 1980s in preparation of the modernization of the country's bank notes, which still featured the 1974 date. Regardless of when it was issued, it utilizes the primary design elements of the 1965 series but in an updated and unique way and combines it with design elements of the later series, culminating in a more colorful design that includes a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at right (this portrait having never been used on notes from the Bahamas), the building of the Central Bank of the Bahamas (which would eventually appear on the $50 denomination) and a local boat scene on the back. Most of the design elements appear to have been printed separately and then pasted on. A fantastic pair and an exceptional opportunity for the Bahamas or Queen Elizabeth II specialist.
