A Double Struck / Brockage Connecticut
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 33.30-EE, W-3815. Rarity-5+. Draped Bust Left. Fine-15 (PCGS).
125.3 grains. A dramatic minting error, including a double striking event where the second strike occurred about 40% off center and as a brockage. On the obverse, the orientation of the two strikes makes the effigy seem to be slumped forward, nodding off in sleep, with overlap of the legends. On the reverse, the primary strike is well centered but overlapped in the lower 60% by a somewhat weakly defined brockage. The date of the original strike, however, is still visible. Light olive brown with traces of minor porosity. A couple of small rim nicks, but no major issues and good eye appeal overall.
PCGS# 686329.
