Description
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 30-hh.1, W-3175. Rarity-2. Draped Bust Left, ETLIR. VF Details--Cleaned (PCGS).
155.4 grains. Wildly double struck with the first impression a little off center, but rotated about 150 degrees from the orientation of the final impression. Strong details of the first strike are seen in the letters of CONNEC at the upper left and upper right of the obverse, while AUCTORI is largely missing. On the reverse, ET LIB is fully expressed in the usual position, but is similarly fully expressed near 7 o'clock, and flanked by a sharp pole arm and pole. A really neat coin! Dark steel surfaces are a little porous. A natural obverse flaw through the effigy's drapery was prominent enough to withstand both strikes.
