1787 Nova Eborac Copper. W-5750. Rarity-5+. Large Head. VF-20 (PCGS).
135.1 grains. Attractive circulated cameo toning, the fields mostly deep copper-gray and supporting lighter chocolate brown devices. Struck from a sharp early state of the dies, the sinking in the right obverse field just beginning. Nicely centered, as well, with honest wear, no marks, and just a touch of microgranularity that in no way inhibits the coin's in-hand appearance. This is a scarce and distinctive Nova Eborac type, punch-linked to the usually encountered Medium Bust W-5755 and 5760 varieties, though the effigy and seated figure were clearly engraved by a different hand and appear crude in comparison on the present type. Certainly a superior VF specimen of this elusive and challenging die pairing, and worthy of strong bids.
