SPANISH COLONIAL. Contraband Silver "Wedge" Ingot, ND. Time of Philip V.
105.90 x 98.07 x 61.31 mm; Weight: 1,160.16 gms. Large triangular ingot with inscribed monogram on the flat side. This decently preserved crudely made example exhibits rich slate patina with minor sea encrustation on the faces and in the crevasses. Several large voids are noticed, possibly due to prolonged saltwater exposure. A typical shape that was supposedly designed to be hidden beneath a false bottom barrel.
From the S.P. Rutherford Collection. Ex: 1715 Plate Fleet (with certificate).
