MEXICO. 35th Anniversary of PIPSA Gold Award Medal, 1970. PCGS SPECIMEN-64.
Diameter: 39mm. Weight: 41.16 gms. Engraved and awarded to Fernando Gonzalez Parra. Obverse: Facing bust of President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz; Reverse: Roll of paper reading PIPSA's stylized logo and MEXICO 756 kgs; on unraveled scroll, "Fernando Gonzalez Parra" engraved in script in three lines. Highly mirrored and enchanting, and a RARE example of the type. PIPSA, Productora y Importadora de Papel S.A., was created in 1935 by then-president Lazaro Cardenas in an attempt to create a state-run media and restrict free speech. This medal appears to have been awarded to individuals in positions of leadership with PIPSA on the occasion of its 35th anniversary. PIPSA was privatized only in 1998, thus finally ending any state control.
