FRANCE. Consulate. Uniface Lead Obverse Trial for 40 Francs, ND (1802/3). Paris Mint. Napoléon as First Consul. PCGS Genuine--Environmental Damage, Unc Details.
Maz-530 var. (tin); Gad-1079.(b) var. (same); T&T-1083.3 var. (white metal); Guilloteau-1220 (this example illustrated) = Dewamin-XXVIII, 6 (this example). By C. Wielandy. Diameter: 31mm; Weight: 10.26 gms. An EXCEPTIONALLY RARE obverse trial of Wielandy's portrait entry, this specimen is presented upon a rather large, untrimmed planchet in lead. The authors of T&T ( Théret & Taillard ) mention an example in Guilloteau (this piece), but that it would have been kept at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, and that they were unable to locate such an example. Despite being listed as tin/white metal in other sources, this specimen instead is struck in lead.
